BBCC

2022 Q3
community initiative

Overview

BBCC, an abbreviation of "Black Business & Cultural Collective", is a cooperative collective, similar to a chamber of commerce. Started by business owners in the North Baton Rouge area near Southern University, the aim is to fill in the gaps unaddressed by existing groups.

Needs

With a drive to connect the community, we actually found a few community groups with similar ambitions. The North Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce coming the closest to our idea. Mainly, the problem with these existing groups were their outdated visuals, fragmented coverage, and limited offerings. A modern design was my chief concern.

Personality

Our primary targerts were business owners of the area, slightly younger than usual, who are looking to advance their business. It would be best to go with modern design themes, such as gradients, tech-type fontstyles, and sleek minimalism that gives a futuristic feel.

Drafts

I was led to this idea of a building for the logo. Something that signaled strength and collectivism. The block pentagon achieved that idea of "diverse, but better together" and even resembled a house, which symbolized the collection of these businesses.

Conclusion

Starting with a video of a black business owner as our hero section background, visitors and potential members are immediately engaged. Animations gently accompany the user down the page, where they read the promises of an exciting start-up, ready for progress. The gradients and small pops of color add life to the black background, and, at every turn, the user is called to join the collective and be a part of the movement.
